My Story

I grew up with lanolin in my blood and wool in between my toes. My dad was a world-class sheep shearer, and from a young age, I was right there beside him—learning the ropes, watching the way he handled animals with both strength and grace. By the time I was 15, I was shearing under his guidance and slowly building a skill that would shape the course of my life.

What began as a side hustle to help local farmers turned into a vocation. Over the years, I sheared in nearly every state west of the Mississippi, spent multiple seasons working in Australia, and eventually planted roots in Arizona to start my own business. I wanted to stay close to my growing family and serve my local community with the kind of honest, dependable care I grew up around.

For years, my business was known as Mick Hofmann Shearing. But something started to shift. Word spread, and people began calling not just for shearing, but for hoof trimming, vaccine support, pig pedicures, and all sorts of unique animal care requests. I realized I wasn’t just offering one service anymore—I was becoming a go-to resource for comprehensive, compassionate farm animal care.

That’s when The Farmyard Collective was born. The new name reflects what this has really become: a growing network of people who care deeply about the animals in their lives. Whether you’ve got a flock of sheep, a potbellied pig, a backyard goat, or a pair of alpacas—this business is for you. It’s still me showing up with my tools, my experience, and my commitment to doing things right. But now it’s under a name that makes space for everything we offer—and everything still to come.

At The Farmyard Collective, our mission is simple:
Shearing. Trimming. Caring.
For your farmyard friends.

Thanks for being a part of the story. I hope to meet you—and your animals—soon.
